PLASTIC TOYS
I’m not the world’s biggest fan when it comes to plastic toys, though there have been exceptions (Dunny, Tokidoki, etc.). The nature of plastic in today’s Western realm is impermanent. Not that plastic toys aren’t here to stay, but rather, plastic toys have an incredibly short lifespan (or play-span, as I like to call it). Children and adults alike have come to understand toys as something one may throw away. Move on from. Discard just as quickly as it was purchased. Metal and wooden toys, however, continue to carry some sort of longevity ticket, something that makes us want to keep them. Likely it has to do with our fetish with all things vintage, but maybe there is more substance there. Maybe we should go back to designing and fabricating toys that are made to last. Toys that can be manhandled, and subsequently passed on to others. This poster is very relevant to my life.
